Experimental Films

in the later part of our time motion class we started working with film, and experimental narratives/meanings. first we were given 16mm film, and asked to cut/scratch color/paint do any and everything we wanted to our film. looking at experimental artists such as, Andy Warhol, Man Ray, Harry Smith, Marie Menken, and Stan Brakhage.

examining these artists, and experimenting on my own, i came up with my own experimental film, as did the other students in my class. you can watch mine here.

Afterwards, we were asked to create an experimental film using digital means, the project was very open ended, but allowed everyone to go for their own interpretations. We were also given about 4 words, which we could use as inspiration, to help us draw from creatively, and get started. My four words were (scarlet, tapping, dappled, and veined.) Using these, and ideas taken from my flip-book, i created a 2:51 experimental film entitled, 'Granatum'. Which can be viewed here.
