Van Volkslied Naar Provincievlag

Wonderful work by the folks over at hoax, a slue of of design and illustration work along with a few pieces in other mediums mixed in. I especially liked the concepts behind these flags, the discussion of exploring music and sound design, thus resulting in the following piece.

"Fascination with music prompted a study of sound recording media. In 1712, Joseph Jacquard invented an automatic loom controlled by punchcards, which also bore the music for barrel organs. The process is reversed, using barrel organ music to weave new images."

please check out HOAX, for further artists and inspiration.

Chris Jordan: Current Work

“These photographs of albatross chicks were made just a few weeks ago on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.

To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated, arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach contents of baby birds in one of the world’s most remote marine sanctuaries, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.”

Significance of the Mentor

"the truly complete mentor is a single individual who is able to serve as an advisor/guide, developer of talent/coach, opener of doors/advocate, role model, interpreter of organizational or professional rules, protector, rule setter/boss - and carries on all of these functions on a long term basis." - William Silen, M.D., Dean for Faculty Development and Diversity at Harvard Medical School.

i am beginning to feel like there is nothing left.
i have nothing to draw from creatively. i feel really drained.
it's upsetting to sit here and look at all this beautiful work that other people are creating when i feel like i can't seem to create a thing. I am really lost, it's been this way for a good while, and I'm ready to give up. I just can't keep doing this. but in doing that, i have nothing left.
I'm empty and alone. I don't know what to do.
I'm stuck.
